Steven heads the trusteeship businesses of Xafinity (the UK pensions consulting and outsourcing group)
Steven has over 30 years of pensions experience and established HR Trustees in 1992.
Steven spent much of the 1980’s advising companies and Trustees upon commercial pension issues (such as scheme mergers and the pensions aspects of company sales or acquisitions) and negotiating innovative solutions to meet their challenges. During this period his clients included Holiday Inns, Triplex Lloyd Plc, Blue Circle Plc, The Port of Bristol and Andrews Sykes Plc. For the last 15 years, Steven has spent an increasing amount of time developing the business of HR Trustees Limited. Many of the trusteeships which he has undertaken have been high profile and have involved complex negotiations and commercial arrangements. Steven has spent much of his time dealing with schemes which have significant financial issues. Amongst other things this has involved negotiating medium term funding arrangements with employers with the object of securing the best interests of both the scheme members and the employers. Recently, this type of work has also involved discussions with The Pensions Regulator.
More recently, Steven has accepted a number of ‘household name’ appointments including chairman of trustees for BBA Plc and IMG. He is a Chairman designate of Hitachi’s main European Scheme where he chairs the investment committee. Other current appointments include the pension schemes of Alfred McAlpine, Swissport, Voith, and Dolphin Square.
Steven was a speaker at the 10th anniversary conference of CEDR (the Centre for Dispute Resolution) and is currently acting as an Expert Witness in a matter involving Trustee investment duties.
Steven has overall responsibility for the business development of HR Trustees Limited and particularly focuses his attention on trusteeships where there is a need to help the trustee body through difficult negotiations or where there are significant conflicts. He is an Associate Member of the Association of Pension Lawyers.
Steven is married and has two daughters.
