My degree

From my school days, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career using numbers. At university, I looked for a career where I could use my degree and that would be technical, challenging and rewarding. After doing some research, I discovered that an actuarial career would be perfect for me.

Choosing Xafinity

From previous work experience, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in pensions as it seemed much more interesting than other actuarial fields. Applying for jobs was quite a daunting experience although I found Xafinity’s process much more enjoyable. I felt the recruitment process really gave me the opportunity to demonstrate my skills. Furthermore, meeting recent graduates at the assessment centre gave off a good vibe about the company which was a deciding factor for me.

My job

To begin with, my job mainly involved looking at individual member cases. This could be anything from retirement quotes to Transfer Values- where we value a member’s individual pension. This was a great way to get an insight into the different and complex benefits that pension schemes provide. It has since been invaluable for the more recent valuation project work I have become involved in. There’s such a wide variety of work to do that I feel as if I am learning something new every day.

Professional development at Xafinity

As there is such a wide variety of work, Xafinity offer regular training sessions to bring new graduates up to speed which I have found very helpful. In addition I have many experienced colleagues I can always ask for help and advice which makes my work so much less daunting. We also have quarterly development reviews which are aimed at helping me be my best.

Life at Xafinity

I’ve made some great office friendships over the past year which has made my move to Reading so much easier. There is always something going on to get involved in from Friday drinks to Go-Karting which is always good fun. I feel the impression I got from the recruitment assessment centre was really representative of daily life here.
